School and Nursery Accident Advice

Accidents happen all the time, it could be anywhere but most common injury's are at school or nursery, Your child spends a lot of time at school or nursery up to 7 hours a day without your supervision and they can have a slip or fall at any time and mostly just come off with a grazed knee or hands but when its something more serious do you know what action to take?

Each school or nursery has a duty of care for their pupils and they must stick to this plan to avoid one or more pupils being injured, the school is responsible for anything that happens inside and on school premises (as well as school trips). If a risk assessment isn't carried out correctly a whole number of incidents can happen such as,
  • A fall down stairs
  • A trip on uneven ground that hasn't been previously warned about.
  • Slipping on non-gritted ground in bad weather.
  • An injury caused by using unsafe play equipment
  • School bus accidents
  • Burns
  • Broken bones/Fractures caused by accident
  • Sporting accidents
The list could go on, Children are always in the wars but the serious stuff can still happen if proper safety precautions aren't met, Health and safety checks must be carried out on a regular basis by staff or ground keepers and kept to a safe standard.
"Some incidents and accidents are required to be reported under the RIDDOR rules. This applies to types of accidents that could occur at school that may involve staff, children or contractors doing work on the site. There is proper and specific information available from HSE to help identify the more serious incidents that must be reported" - Accident Advice Helpline
Most serious accidents rarely happen and some are unavoidable but cases that happen through negligence can be very upsetting for children and parents/carers, if you are concerned about anything around or in your child's school always speak to a member of staff to help put things right.

If your child has had an accident call an advice line and see if you could make a claim against them, most are no win, no fee so its always worth a shot for your peace of mind.

Has your child had a serious accident? What action did you take?

Valentine's Day As A Family

                                                                            Image

Valentine’s day is much more than the love of a couple. When you have a family, that love extends to your children. So, although you might be heading out for a fancy date with your other half, why not spend the day with your whole family simply celebrating the love you have for each other. A day with the family doesn’t have to mean spending loads of money or going miles out of the way; you can celebrate at home easily enough.

Day Out
A day out can be amazing; a chance to get out of the house and to experience something new. With spring creeping in, being outdoors isn’t as terrible a thing to think about, so why not go somewhere like
Kids Farm Village, where you can play with some animals and enjoy a day in the country. Or, if you have older kids, maybe you go to a theme park like Thornton Park for the day and get enough thrills to see you through the last of the winter frost.

Movies
Going to the cinema can be a fun and different experience for your children, and there are some great films coming out over this month. Splash out and find your local luxury cinema and sprawl on a sofa and be served drinks while you watch. Or you can create a home movie experience. Build a fort and watch something on a laptop or tablet beneath the covers, or buy in all the naughty snacks you tell your kids (and yourself) not to eat. Add in a glass of wine for the grown-ups and a takeaway, and your day will be set.

Craft Day
Why not spend the day making something together? You can
make it as a gift, or just for yourself.
Why not combine a craft day with your movie night and bake some delicious treats to have? Keep it valentine’s themed with heart-shaped biscuits and cake, angel cupcakes, pink and red icing.

Meal
Going out for dinner doesn’t have to be just for you and your partner - a family meal out can be so much fun. It might be an idea to steer clear of the more romantic restaurants if you don’t want your kids seeing some serious valentine’s PDA. Choose your favourite place to go and enjoy it. Or you can cook the family favourite meal at home. Make things more festive with
heart-shaped cutters to shape the meal.

Party
Why not bring the extended family into the mix and have a Valentine's party? It doesn’t have to be a huge bash, but you can easily have people over. Ask each person to bring part of the meal or an addition to a buffet, that way the cost and responsibility is spread. Extend your movie night to more members of the family, or let your kids invite their friends around.

Let me know what you have planned for the family this valentines day?!

Wedding Planning Tips ft. Festive Lights

So you've just got engaged?! It was magical, romantic and perfect but now you have this wedding to think of! Planning a wedding can be mega stressful, but lucky for you I'm doing it too!
I'm getting married in September so I have 8 months to throw a wedding together and did I mention its a joint wedding too! Yeah! My mum is getting married as well! So DOUBLE the planning to do!

So I've teamed up with Festive Lights to share some tips to make your wedding planning journey a breeze!

Pick a date and theme - Now this may seem a little obvious but honestly its so hard, Pick and Stick to a date, don't change it unless its a mega emergency, this is your foundation, same goes with your theme, its so important and you will base so many decisions just on this alone its crazy.

  • Don't make you theme too complicated.
  • Pick a date that's good for you - forget about anyone else. (unless your having a joint wedding like me then you have to compromise)
  • DONT CHANGE IT!! (plus you'd probably loose deposits if you did)
The Legal Bit- Make sure you have all the right legal documents, birth certificate, adoption papers, deed poll, passport, driving licence, you will need at least some of these to get your marriage licence so make sure you have it all, we still had to get mikes deed poll and birth certificate before we could approach the registry office, Keep them all in a safe place so when you need them they're all together.

Venue- Whether it be for the ceremony or the reception a venue has to suit your needs, it doesn't have to be fancy and you can always spruce it up with some Festive Lights Like these that have been featured in Bride Magazine:

The trick is to find somewhere you love but also somewhere practical so a ballroom for only 70 guests would just be too big or a small pub for 150 would be too small! We have chose our reception venue, its a local pub with a lovely atmosphere and its FREE so what more could we want!!

The Guest List- For a joint wedding this is the hard bit, we can only have so many guests at the ceremony but luckily were family so some of our guests are on their guest list too so that cuts it down a bit! The tip is to not invite everyone, Unless you have a mega huge budget inviting everyone may not be affordable. Build your guest list by inviting close friends and family then working your way through the extra guests, give yourself a rough number and try to stick to it!

Décor- So I've already said about picking and sticking to a theme but making sure its all perfect is another thing altogether, try not to go too O.T.T. or anything that's too complicated, simplicity is key so you don't have to worry about it all on the day. A string of balloons or candle centrepieces are beautiful and simple and sometimes can work out really cheap too! There's always something affordable to fit your theme and it can look beautiful too.

Budget - It costs ALOT for a wedding but sometimes having what you want just isn't practical, try and budget or even haggle for the price you want, you never know unless you ask and you may be pleasantly surprised. Obviously some things are worth paying for but keep it in mind its just one day/night and is it worth the money?

Make a checklist- If your new here you should know I love lists! I have them everywhere for everything and its a pet hate for Michael but that's how I work!
Make a checklist for the whole wedding, put it on a board or the front of a planning folder and mark things off as you do them, keeping a paper trail is also handy print emails or confirmation letters and keep them in a folder so if anything goes wrong with what you thought would happen you have evidence to check on.
