Summer holidays can drag, and they can get boring really fast but mummas got ya covered! Here are my top 15 FREE activities for the summer holidays (all kid friendly of course) In no specific order:
What's on in great yarmouth


1) Join the Animal Agents - Summer reading challenge - 22nd July:
Sign up at your local library to receive your collector folder, as you read/share books over the summer you can find clues and collect stickers, there is a special challenge  for under 5 ' s too!
We did this last year and lilli loved it and we read 6 books so 1 a week and got a medal and a certificate at the end with a lovely presentation evening :) safe to say this is always a hit and I even did it when I was a child!!

2) Sure start make it messy 24th- 28th July:
It's messy play week with sure start, grab some old clothes and shoes and possible outdoor clothes for seagulls and Peggotty road and let's get messy! Did I mention a messy child is a happy child?!
This is so much fun for everyone and we all know kids LOVE making a mess! Join in at these locations:

Peggotty Road Centre (garden) Monday 11.00am-2.00pm
Hopton Village Hall Wednesday 11.00am-2.00pm
Seagulls Centre  (garden) 11.00am-2.00pm

3) Gorleston Clifftop Festival - 29th - 30th July:
This event is always free! And its a brilliant day out just to have a walk around there's always some free entertainment and activitys but beware not everything is free, there is alot of game stalls and charity stalls too! It's just overall a fun day put for all ages and we go every year without fail! P.s. There's a firework display in the evening too and it's easy to get to by all modes of transport!


4) Summer Fireworks - 19th July - every Wednesday for 7 weeks:
Enjoy the free live music outside in the Sealife Centre gardens from 8pm before watching the fireworks at 10pm, it's brilliant, free and lovely for all the family, the seafront is lit up and the atmosphere is lively :)

5) East Coast Truckers - 27th August:
Every year the truckers take out children with disabilities or from disadvantaged backgrounds on a special trip, then along Great Yarmouth Seafront, the children's transport consists of about 80 trucks and is police escorted, lots of family's come out to wave to the children and family's in their trucks, the convoy finally reaches the seafront at around 6pt where there is live music and trucks outside Joyland.

6) Out there festival - 15th - 17th September:
Now I know this isn't in the summer holidays but it is always a brilliant free event to take the family too and really enjoy, with a  different theme each year you never know what's coming!

7) Sure start Under The sea - 31st July - 4th August:
Grab your bucket and spade and join in at the beach! There is games, sand castle building and maybe even some crabbing, we have been the last few years and even when it's rain it has been brilliant, there is tent canopys to sit under, lots of games and fun to be had for all ages!
Don't forget to bring suncream and a towel and maybe even a picnic too! Here are the venues and dates:

Gorleston beach (behind the boating lake) - Tuesday 11:00 -2.00
Play Rangers Event - Seagulls Garden - Wednesday 11.00 -2.00
Great Yarmouth Beach (behind joyland) - Thursday 11:00 -2.00

8) Sure start Jungle Boogie - 7th- 11th August:
Hear the rumble in the jungle with Jungle boogie music week, singing, dancing and Animal arts and crafts too, dress up as an animal if you can and join in the fun at these locations:

Peggotty Road Centre (garden) - Monday - 11:00-2:00
Hopton CE Primary school (field) Wednesday - 11:00 - 2:00
Seagulls Centre (garden) Friday - 11:00 -2.00

9) Sure start Teddy bears picnic - 14th-18th August:
Pack up a picnic and join in with the teddy bears picnic, with games, crafts and other outdoor activities it's fun for all ages, just don't forget to bring your teddy bear! Here are the locations:

Seagull Centre  (garden) - Tuesday 11:00 -2.00
Gordon Road (garden) - Thursday 11:00-2.00

10) Sure start Circus Week - 21st-25 August:
A visit from the library bus, arts, crafts and circus activities, it's a brilliant way to spend a few hours, juggling, hula hoops stilts and spinning plates, this circus themed activity day will definitely be a party to end the summer holidays!

Magdalen Square - Monday - 11:00 -2:00
St. Georges Park - Wednesday - 11:00 -2:00

11) Belton fun day and classic car show -new road playing field - 5th August 12:00-5:00:
Classic cars and bikes as well as family fun, stalls, food stalls and live entertainment it's the perfect summer day out for the family!
Entry is free but parking is charged at £2 :)

12) Gorleston makes music finals - Gorleston Bandstand (beach)
Sunday 20th August 1:00pm:
Grab a blanket and maybe a beverage or two and soak up the music, ts a lovely chilled afternoon and you can always grab an ice cream from the stall nearby too!

13) Hemsby Firework display - Every Tuesday 25th July - 29th August:
An Ariel firework display all along the beach line :) At 10pm every Tuesday in the summer holidays so it's perfect after a long busy day!

14) Hopton Fete at Hopton playing field - Sunday 20th August 11:00-4:00:
Great yarmouth Lions club and Hopton parish council will be holding their 11th Annual fete, from tombolas, arts crafts and rides for the kids Hopton Fete has it all, it's a fun packed day out and it's free entry too!
There is food, entertainment for the adults and kids, and a fancy dress competition where the theme is Initial (first letter of your name) with prizes to be won!

15) Great Yarmouth Martime Festival - Historic south Quay - 9th10th September:
Now I know this isn't in the summer holidays but it's always a good event, it's free (although donation Is greatly appreciated), board he pirate ship, sing some sea shanties, visit the stalls and have some local food and drinks, it's an overall good day out and fun for the kids too, but it does get very very busy so make sure you keep little ones close or on reins, it's a lovely way to finish off the summer and celebrate their first week back at school!!
